Information: A claymore is the Scottish variant of the late medieval two-handed longsword. It is characterised as having forward-sloping crossguards, with quatrefoil terminations, to protect the hands.

The claymore was in use from the 15th to 17th centuries and was used in constant clan warfare and border fights with the English. Early claymores, although smaller in size, existed as far back as the Wars of Scottish Independence. The last known battle in which they were used in any significant number was the Battle of Killiecrankie in 1689.

Longer than most other two-handed swords of the era, the claymore seems to be an offshoot of the early Scottish medieval longswords, which had developed forward-angled crossguards. The average length was about 140cm overall, with a 33cm grip and 107 cm blade. They weighed approximately 2.5kg.
