Egyptian Hieroglyphic Ruler 30cm

Product Description: The Egyptian Hieroglyphic Ruler is plastic and measures 30cm long. It shows measurements in both inches and centimetres. On the inches scale it includes units of 1/16 of an inch and on the centimetre side units of 1 millimetre.

On the front of the ruler is the alphabet and depicted above each letter is the equivalent Egyptian hieroglyphic image.

On the reverse of the ruler is information about hieroglyphs and also an Egyptian timeline. The timeline starts from 3100 BC and the earliest known hieroglyphic writing and the foundation of the Egyptian state through to the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom the Greco-Roman Period, the discovery of the Rosetta Stone and finally the deciphering of hieroglyphics in 1822 AD.

Information: Hieroglyphs were signs devised c.3000 BC and were used for formal inscriptions in ancient Egypt. Hieroglyphs were called by the Egyptians “the words of God” and were used mainly by the priests. Hieroglyphs are written in rows or columns and can be read from right or left. You can distinguish the direction in which the text is to be read because the human or animal figures always face towards the beginning of the line. Also, the upper symbols are read before the lower.
