Information: Seal top spoons were a rarity before the late 1550’s but from about 1560 until 1670 they became very popular. During this time, it was customary when travelling to carry personal eating utensils as well as writing materials. Most letters and documents were sealed with wax and it is for this purpose that spoons were often manufactured with the owner’s seal on the end of the handle.

The original of this Elizabethan Seal Top Spoon would have been made circa 1580, and has a full Tudor Rose seal.
