Product Description: This full-size Victoria Cross medal is made from lead-free pewter that is bronze plated. It is supplied with approximately 12cm of ribbon. The medal is mounted on a fold-over information card that has a colour image of British troops, an aircraft and a tank together with a Victoria Cross on the front and has historical information about the medal on the reverse. The medal is presented in a clear medal wallet with the header card attached to the top.
Information: The Victoria Cross (VC) was instituted in January 1856 during the reign of Queen Victoria. It is the highest recognition for valour “in the face of the enemy” that can be awarded to members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces of any rank in any service, and civilians under military command. It is also the highest military award in the British Honours system.
The bronze to make the medals comes from cannons captured during the Crimean War and later from the Boxer Rebellion in China.
