Product Description: This 11.5cm long reproduction of a Medieval Combat Sword is made from lead-free pewter. It is supplied with a full-colour information card that has multiple images of knights in combat on the front. On the reverse of the card, there is historical information which explains how the Medieval sword developed. The sword, held in place, and card are supplied in a clear presentation box.

Information: The standard shape of the medieval sword was the same throughout the twelfth to fourteenth centuries. These swords had a round-shaped pommel at the end of the handle, simple cross bar guard and a broad blade.

During this period the blades increased in length and would have extended up to 50 inches / 123cm. To balance the extra weight, the grip was made longer and the pommel was made larger and heavier. Blades were generally broad and double-edged.

Chain mail armour was inadequate protection against this sword and from the 1400s, knights went to war entirely encased in suits of plate armour.
