The full colour card shows the royal coat of arms on the front. There is historical information about the sixpence on the back.

Information: In England, the first sixpences were struck during the reign of Edward VI in 1551. The sixpence continued in use for over 420 years until they were rendered obsolete by decimalisation.

The George VI sixpences were produced between 1937 and 1952 and followed two designs, both of which show the bust of the King on the obverse. The first design shows the initials GRI surmounted by a crown on the reverse. In 1949, the second design was introduced and the crowned initials were changed to GR with a small VI between.

The Elizabeth II sixpence was produced between 1953 and 1967. The obverse shows the head of Elizabeth II, while the reverse shows a garland with rose, thistle, shamrock and leek.

Sixpences were put into Christmas puddings and children would hope to be the lucky one to find the sixpence. They have also been seen as a lucky charm for brides.

The sixpence remained as legal tender after decimalisation in 1971 with a value of 2.5 new pence. They finally ceased being legal tender in June 1980.
