Pre-decimal coinage, used until the decimalisation of the currency in 1971, was a complex system based on pounds, shillings, and pence. The pound consisted of 20 shillings, and each shilling was comprised of 12 pennies. Coins included farthings, halfpennies, pennies, threepences, sixpences, shillings, florins, and crowns. This intricate currency system often required mental calculations and was deeply ingrained in everyday life. Decimalisation brought simplicity with the introduction of the "new penny”, but the pre-decimal coinage remains nostalgic and historical.
