Product Description: This Rocket pendant is made from lead-free pewter. The rocket is supplied on a waxed cord. The pendant is mounted on an information card, which has an image of a Soyuz rocket launching on the front and on the reverse describes about rockets and spacecraft.

Information: Spacecraft need the massive power of rockets to launch them into space. Rockets work by burning huge amounts of fuel and the fast expulsion of exhaust gases push the spacecraft into space. Rockets are usually divided into 3 stages. The first stage lifts the vehicle into the atmosphere. Once the fuel in this rocket has been used it falls to Earth. The second stage reaches a higher speed and when empty also falls to Earth. The final stage propels the spacecraft into orbit or further into space.

The Russians use the Soyuz rocket to fly their astronauts into space. These rockets have four cone shaped boosters on their base that are used to add extra thrust. The U.S. used space shuttles that were launched into space using rockets. These shuttles had the advantage that they were reusable and glided back to Earth and landed like a plane. After the U.S. Space Shuttle programme ended in 2011, Soyez rockets became the only launch vehicle to transport astronauts to the International Space Station.
