Information: The Roman legionary was a professional heavy infantryman of the Roman army. These soldiers would conquer and defend the territories of ancient Rome, alongside auxiliary and cavalry detachments. Roman legionaries were viewed as the foremost fighting force in the Roman world.
This Roman legionary is wearing a tunic and a padded jacket over which a lorica segmentate, a type of body armour, is worn. On his head he wears a galea, helmet. Both were used to protect the soldier in battle. The soldier would usually also carry a gladius sword and a scutum shield.
