Product Description: This Sabre-Toothed Cat pendant is made from lead-free pewter and is a side profile of a sabre-toothed cats head. The sabre-toothed cat is supplied on a waxed cord. The pendant is mounted on an information card, which explains about carnivorous mammals.
Information: The Sabre-Toothed Cat was a carnivorous mammal that ate meat and had enlarged canine teeth (long pointed teeth near the front of the mouth). The teeth were shaped like sabres (curved swords) and were about 20 centimetres long. They may have used their long canines to stab the necks of their prey. Their diet probably consisted of thick skinned animals including elephants, mastodons and ground sloths. Sabre-toothed tigers lived about 40 million years ago and became extinct about 10,000 years ago.
