Product Description: This Roman Scorpion Gem pendant is made from lead-free pewter and is supplied with either a red or blue gem. The Scorpion pendant is supplied on a waxed cord. The pendant is mounted on a fold-over information card, which has a Roman mosaic image on the front and on the reverse describes about the Praetorian guard and the meaning of SPQR.

Information: The scorpion was the emblem of the Praetorian Guard, representing Scorpio, the astrological symbol under which the Emperor Tiberius was born. This guard was a force of bodyguards used by Roman Emperors who also served as secret police and participated in wars.

The letters SPQR (Senatus Populusque Romanus), meaning ‘the Senate and People of Rome’ were put on buildings, coins and army standards. These standards were carried by each legion and were decorated with gold eagles, laurel wreaths, astrological birth signs and banners called Vexilla.
