Product Description: This Poppy is made from metal and is inlaid with red and black enamel. It is supplied on a gold chain. The pendant is mounted on a fold-over information card, that has a colour image of British troops carrying a wounded soldier and a red poppy on the front and has historical information about how the poppy became a symbol of World War I on the reverse.
Information: At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the guns on the western front in Europe fell silent and an armistice was declared.
Poppies grew prolifically in the killing fields of Flanders in Belgium, and still cover the countryside today. The poppies were made famous by the poem “In Flanders Fields” written by Canadian military doctor John McCrae in 1915 after seeing poppies on the battlefield after the loss of his friend in the second battle of Ypres.
A donation from the sale of this poppy will be made to a Military charity.
